Why NeoNutGut exists

In conjunction with the 6th Annual Richard A. Ehrenkranz Neonatology Symposium at Yale School of Medicine, a group of neonatal nutrition and gut health scientists met to deliberate the best clinical approaches for neonatal nutrition and to determine an agenda for ongoing neonatal nutrition research.

NeoNutGut was developed by Sarah Taylor, MD, of Yale School of Medicine, and Cami Martin, MD, MS, of Weill Cornell Medical Center, and consisted of 13 hours of meetings with presentations of current evidence, ongoing studies, and deliberation as to how the available science informs clinical care. Most importantly, the group identified priority areas for future research — with a particular focus on the junior scientists who will lead these studies.

What came out of the meeting

A new Society for Neonatal Nutrition and Lifelong Health

Representing more than 20 national academic centers, NeoNutGut 2025's 30 in-person and 10 virtual attendees unanimously decided to launch the forthcoming Society for Neonatal Nutrition and Lifelong Health — to continue advancing neonatal nutrition and gut health research and to inform clinical practice. Since then, the Society has continued to meet — most recently in Boston in Spring 2026.

Spring 2026 Meeting

April 27–28, 2026 · Westin Boston Seaport, Hancock Room — held immediately after the 2026 Pediatric Academic Societies (PAS) meeting in Boston.

The Society's third meeting in its first year.

The Society for Neonatal Nutrition and Lifelong Health held its third meeting in its first year, with three aims:

  1. 1Delve deeper into the neonatal nutrition research presented at the 2026 PAS meeting.
  2. 2Review and vote on Society consensus statements regarding approaches to neonatal nutrition.
  3. 3Establish a mission statement and officers of the Society.
